Adult care
What is adult care?
Adult care is support for those over 18 who need help with their physical or mental health.
Adult care is designed to allow adults who require support to continue living life on their own terms. They will usually have a medical condition or physical disability, which means that they need extra help with some or all aspects of their lives. The aim of adult social care is to enable someone to live as independently as possible, with assistance as and when they require.
At Helping Hands, we create personalised support plans with you, so that you are involved with your care every step of the way.
Our adult care supports your loved one by:
Promoting their independence
At Helping Hands, our home care focuses on encouraging our customers to enjoy their independence and to continue making as many of their own decisions as possible
Prioritising their specific needs
If your loved one is living with a complex condition or has specific care needs, your local care manager will work with you to develop a care plan that offers just the right type and level of support
Helping at home and beyond
Your loved one’s carer will be able to help them with day-to-day life around the home, as well as supporting them to get out and about and enjoy all their favourite activities, routines and hobbies
Support for younger people
We’re passionate about supporting young people to enjoy an independent lifestyle.
A younger person may want to live independently away from parents but due to a long-term health condition such as cerebral palsy or multiple sclerosis, they may need extra support to do this.
Home care doesn’t just mean that our carers will only support you at home; we can help you with all aspects of your day-to-day life, whatever your condition or circumstances.
We can support young people with:
Getting to work
Your assistant can help you to get ready for the day ahead each morning, as well as supporting you on your commute to and from work
Trips and holidays
If you’re someone who loves to get out and about, your carer can help you plan days out to your favourite spots, or even go on holiday with you!
Attending university
As a student, you probably want to be as independent as possible. A carer can help you enjoy all the brilliant perks of student life.
Enjoying hobbies
Whether you’re part of a club, love a board game with friends or enjoy a sunny walk, your assistant can support you to maintain your hobbies
Support for the elderly
Support for the elderly focuses on helping you handle the challenges faced by older people.
For an elderly person, home care may be in the form of daily visits to check that they’re okay, and helping them with their daily routines so that they’re fully supported to live confidently and comfortably in their own home.
Our carers receive expert training in providing support that gives elderly people and their families full peace of mind about their security and their well-being.
We can support the elderly with:
Condition-led care
Adult care can help manage the symptoms of medical conditions that occur in older age such as dementia, Parkinson’s and stroke
Seeing loved ones
Your carer can help you plan visits to see loved ones and accompany you there, or lend a hand getting your home ready if you want to host them
Running errands
If you need help sorting through mail, paying bills, doing the weekly shop or picking up a prescription, a carer can do all of this for you and much more
Being in the community
Whether you go to church every week or are part of a book club, we can help you to get out and about and continue enjoying your local community
Flexible adult care from Helping Hands
When you opt for care from Helping Hands, you’ll get a fully bespoke, flexible care plan.
Home care from Helping Hands will enable you to continue living at home and live life on your terms, instead of having to move into a care home or residential setting. After all, everyone is most comfortable in their own home, surrounded by possessions, loved ones and maybe even a doting pet. We believe that home care for adults is extremely beneficial to both physical and mental health, as there is no upheaval of moving all of your belongings somewhere you don’t know, and you can receive one-to-one care on your terms.

Complex care support
For more complex care needs that require round-the-clock support, live-in care can offer 24-hour assistance to yourself or both you and a loved one who wish to remain living together. Your carer will be there throughout the day and night, assisting you with all elements of care that you need support with and often becoming more like a friend or extended member of the family than a carer. All of our complex care packages are overseen by our team of experienced clinical nurses, who have many years’ experience working in the NHS as registered nurses. We can also provide nurse-led care to adults over the age of 18 and who have clinical care needs such as:
PEG feeding tube
Stoma
Catheter
Continence support
A complex medical condition
Amazing carers, delivering quality care in your home
We’re extremely proud of our carers who are committed to providing exceptional support day in, day out. We only hire the most compassionate, dedicated applicants to our care teams, and perform advanced DBS checks to ensure they’re the type of person you’d be happy to have in your home.
When they join us, every carer receives our industry-leading training, which equips them to provide a wide range of care services to people with varying needs. They’ll then continue to participate in regular refresher courses to ensure their knowledge and skillset are always up to date with the latest care industry standards.
Kind and compassionate
At Helping Hands, we have a rigorous recruitment process which means we only hire kind, empathetic carers who share our person-centred family values
Directly employed by us
We directly employ all of our carers, so we take full responsibility for managing their workload, maintaining their well-being and paying them
Expertly trained and fully vetted
Every carer is fully DBS-checked and receives our industry-renowned training which equips them to provide a wide range of specialist care services
Emergency care at home
Perhaps you only require adult social care for a short period of time or need care urgently for several weeks after you’ve been discharged from hospital? We can provide emergency care quickly, giving you the extra reassurance you need at an already fraught and stressful time. And if you’re already a carer and need to take a break from your caregiving duties, we can offer respite care on a short-term basis, so you can step back whilst we step in.
Support for people living with a disability
We offer support for those living with a physical or learning disability, such as Down’s syndrome, autism or cerebral palsy.
Dedicated support for a physical or learning disability may be particularly beneficial if you want some independence from your parents or if you’re a parent yourself and you need extra support for your child who has now reached adulthood. We have carers who have received specialist training in these conditions, and others, who will also be able to help with challenging behaviour, activities of daily living and building their confidence.
