Carer assisted travel
The ability to travel is what keeps us connected to one another.
Our personal assistants can help you get out and about, either by using your own car or on public transport. Being able to leave the house with confidence means you’ll be able to maintain as much normality and independence as possible, and can keep living life on your own terms.
For many of our customers, being able to get out and about makes a massive difference to their physical and mental well-being.
Here are some of the benefits of having a travelling companion:
Visiting your favourite spots
With carer assisted travel, you don’t have to stop visiting your favourite cafés, restaurants and day trip destinations
Navigating public transport
Using public transport and getting to grips with timetables becomes really straightforward when you have someone alongside you to help out
Exploring new locations
Your personal assistant can drive or accompany you anywhere you like, including exploring new spots that you might not otherwise be able to visit
Seeing friends and family
Travelling with a carer suddenly gives you the ability to visit and spend time with loved ones with much greater flexibility and without concern
Maintaining your routines
For a lot of people, an independent lifestyle means being able to maintain as many of the same routines as possible, such as doing the weekly shop
A friendly face alongside you
Having a friendly, reliable companion alongside you wherever you go can be a great source of comfort and reassurance
Customer stories
Every Helping Hands customer has a special story; here are some of our favourites:
All of our customers have a unique reason for using us. Here are some of our favourite examples of how our support is making a difference to people’s lives:
The benefits of opting for care at home
Support from a carer in your home offers a number of short and long-term benefits.
Care at home is becoming an increasingly popular way to receive additional day-to-day support when it’s needed, rather than moving to a residential care home. Some of the benefits of care at home are:
Provide you with much-needed rest
Having an assistant take care of all the tiring, time-consuming errands and housework can allow you to focus on your own well-being or rehabilitation
Specialist one-to-one support
Care at home provides you with dedicated, personalised support from your own carer who will get to know your specific needs and wishes
Remain in a familiar environment
Unlike moving to residential care, being supported at home let you continue living in the familiar, comfortable surroundings of your own home
More than just a helper
Our carers’ well-being is our number one priority, because we want them to be able to care for you as well as they possibly can. All of our carers are provided with comprehensive carer training, and receive the full support of their local Helping Hands branch every step of the way.
As part of our holistic approach to care, we’ll always try to pair you with a fully-vetted carer who shares your hobbies and interests, so that you’ve got a valued companion as well as a helper. We know that having an assistant who you get on really well with can make all the difference to your day.
Can carers help with shopping?

Whether they’re accompanying you to the supermarket, heading to the shops on your behalf or helping you to place orders online, a Helping Hands carer can make sure you have full control over when and where you do your shopping.
