Nursing-led care plans from Helping Hands carers

Helping Hands is proud to be a specialist and leading organisation of live-in care to meet complex care needs. Unlike many live-in care agencies, we employ a passionate nursing team and regional trainers who manage and supervise the medical interventions and medication administration our carers provide.

Sometimes called personal assistants or PAs, our carers are able to deliver specialist nursing support including gastrostomy management, PEG feeding and continence care.

We can provide medical support for:

  • Peristeen – rectal irrigation
  • Suppositories and digital stimulation for bowel management
  • Bladder washout
  • Convene
  • Urethral and Supra pubic catheter
  • CPAP, BiPAP and VPAP ventilation
  • Cough assist
  • Diabetes blood sugar monitoring
  • Stoma – ileostomy, colostomy, urostomy
  • Inhalers
  • PEG feeding, including bolus and continuous
  • Nebiliser

We work closely with customers, their families and existing professionals to ensure that personal care needs are met and lifestyles maintained. Our registered nurses and local care service managers work with GPs, local hospitals and healthcare professionals to ensure that a cohesive, multi-discipline care plan is in place.

Carers are handpicked, not only for their care knowledge and experience, but also their character and personal ‘fit’ to each of our customers. From this shortlist, you and your family will get to choose who supports you each day – someone who you feel most comfortable with and who will help you to live the life you want.

It is this complete involvement of the family, our person-centred approach, and our determination to look after the whole person, both physically and emotionally, that really sets Helping Hands apart.

Assistance with diabetes

Type 1 diabetes doesn’t stop Gary. His number one priority was to not let his condition get in the way of his life – and why should it!

Now, with his Helping Hands live-in carer, Gary no longer needs to wait around for the district nurse to give him intermittent bowel care. Plus, as his carer provides continuous support at home and while Gary is out and about, his blood sugar levels are always monitored, no matter where he is.

Carers with ongoing training and support

Part of the Helping Hands commitment to our customers is to ensure that each and every one of our carers is closely monitored through meetings with their care manager, registered nurse and regional trainers. Also, where needed, customer-specific training is given to ensure the carer can do the best job possible. Our service evolves with the customer so we can provide sustainable support in the home.
