Home care in Retford
Visiting care and home care in Retford
Retford is one of the oldest market towns in England, having been first granted its charter in 1105. Sitting on the River Idle, an ancient ford crossing the river giving the town its name, Chesterfield Canal also passes through the centre of the town.
Even though at Helping Hands we can’t claim such an impressive pedigree, we have been in operation since 1989, making us one of the UK’s longest established and most trustworthy home care companies. Our impressive record for delivering only superb, compassionate care, fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission and Care Inspectorate Wales, means we should be considered the first choice for care at home in Nottinghamshire.
Retford has an impressive heritage, with tools from the Mesolithic period being found in the area, as well as items from the Neolithic and Bronze Age.

Branch Care Manager
My role as branch manager is to ensure that the branch runs as smoothly as possible and that my staff team provide an outstanding quality of care for our customers. I deal with all the compliance and CQC regulations of the business, as well as developing the company with new business and maintain the packages currently in place. I joined the care industry at eighteen years old and since have worked my way up the carer ladder to where I am today. This has enabled me to see care from all different aspects of the job, from providing good care myself to people, to moving into the management side of care. I have worked in a variety of care settings including learning disabilities and mental health services, to child services and the elderly. I feel at Helping Hands that we provide a can-do attitude towards our services and customers, which enables many of our customers to continue living in the home they love, with a person-centred approach around their individual needs. My team of carers are all highly trained and each one can add that personal touch to the customers’ needs and wishes. In my spare time you will find me spending time with my horses, either knee deep in mud, or enjoying the sunshine. I also have two children, and I enjoy sports so if I’m not out doing my own hobby you will find me either stood next to a football pitch, boxing ring or ice-hockey rink.

Other care we provide
High quality home care in Retford
Our home care is always designed to your needs, while remaining flexible enough to change if your situation does. Whether you’d like an occasional visit for companionship, regular help to escort you to appointments, or you have highly complex needs, we can support your daily routine to proceed as you wish. We offer one-to-one support that you’d never get in a care home environment, helping you to stay in the environment you love even if your needs increase.
24/7 live in care support
Our personalised live-in care and support means there is always someone in your home with you and you’ll never be alone. This doesn’t mean your carer won’t respect your boundaries though or give you privacy when you want it, for instance when your friends or family come to visit, or you just want some peace and quiet. Your carer will quickly become a trusted friend who’ll support you to maintain your routine and enjoy your favourite hobbies, while helping you to enjoy your surroundings every day.
Why Helping Hands is better than a care agency in Retford
There are big differences between a care agency and a private home care company and we’re proud that we’ve never been a care agency in all our decades of existence. Care agencies act as an intermediary – charging a fee to source you a carer and then having little to do with the ongoing process. At Helping Hands though, we manage every aspect of your care journey, from the first moment you contact us and for as long as you need us, including recruiting, employing, and training our exceptional carers.
Qualified carers providing a variety of care services in Retford
If you’d like to remain living in the home that’s always meant the world to you and your family, then we can support you as often as you need us. Our visiting carers can provide you occasional or regular appointments at home that ensure you get the support you need on a daily basis, while live-in carers will live in your home around the clock and make sure you’re never at risk of loneliness or isolation. We train our carers and regularly refresh their skills to ensure they have all the knowledge they need to fully support you, while offering qualifications and career development to suit the individual.
