All of our carers are strictly vetted before they are employed by Helping Hands, not only do we looked for professionally qualified carers but also those that show compassion and commitment to the client, this reflects our reputation for the very highest quality of service and support we offer.
We thoroughly interview each potential carer and request a minimum of two professional references. After the interview and the references have been received, all potential Helping Hands carers attend our intensive Induction Training programme at our Alcester Head Office. The topics covered include,
- Moving and Handling
- Health and Safety
- Food Hygiene
- Safer Handling of Medication
- Emergency First Aid
- Principles of care
- Role of the Care Worker
- Needs of the Service User, I
- Incontinence Care
- Basic Infection Control
- Abuse Awareness of vulnerable Adults
Time is also then spent shadowing an experienced carer in a Service Users home.
Once the initial training is complete we then offer all carers the opportunity to undertake additional training so that they can increase their knowledge of caring for specific conditions. These include Dementia, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Learning Difficulties. A comprehensive list of our additional training for live-in carers is available to view.
Carers are subject to criminal records bureau checks in the UK as well as checked against the POVA (Protection of Vulnerable Adults) List. Before any care commences you will be able to see a carer profile to help you with your decision.
