Next Steps for Respite Care

next steps guideIf you decide that your full time Carer needs a break, or a situation has arisen where you need short-term care cover, Helping Hands can help. The process is very simple and can happen very quickly; if necessary Step 3 to Step 7 can be accomplished in a day with the assessment (Step 3) taking place the day care starts.

Obviously the more notice we have the better chance we have of matching you with the best possible Carer for your situation. Remember that Helping Hands Respite Care is for a minimum of two weeks.

Completed your online research?

Give us a call on 0808 180 9455 and we’ll take some details and discuss your situation, asking questions about any existing conditions, mobility and so on.

We will also use this call to ascertain how long you need Respite Care for, and when you need it to start.

Following the call, we will send (or email) a brochure pack, including a Live-In Care DVD, to you and any family members you request.

We suggest that all members of the family involved in the decision, including your regular full-time Carer and the person who needs care, watch the DVD together.

next steps assessmentStep 3 - Assessment

If having read the information pack and watched the DVD you decide that would like to proceed, we will organise an in-home assessment by a Customer Advice Manager, a member of our Registered Nurse Assessor Team. There is a small fee for a Respite Care assessment.

We will come to the home to meet the family and the prospective client to be cared for. During this meeting we can answer any questions, inspect the property and ascertain the level of care required. Sometimes, at the family’s request, we complete this assessment a few weeks prior to the start of care, but more often than not we carry out the assessment on the day that care starts.

This meeting will allow us to prepare a bespoke Care Plan; this is the document that will detail all needs from medication, to mobility issues, to routines and favourite pastimes. This enables us to deliver an individual care package that meets your exact needs for the duration of the Respite Care period.

We will prepare a full quote that details the level of respite care that we believe is required, and the associated costs.

choosing a carerStep 5 - Choosing a carer

The next step is to identify the Carer that best suits your situation. We will ask you for a brief on the type of Carer you are looking for.

From your brief we will submit a Carer profile for your consideration.

We have a number of Carers at all experience levels; the Carer profiles that we submit will be those that we feel are best suited to your situation and who are closest to your brief.

For the Care service to be successful, we need to match the right people with the right Carers.
