Case Studies for Respite Care

At Helping Hands, we provide Respite Care for individuals with over 45 different conditions, ranging from Dementia and Alzheimer’s, to Multiple Sclerosis, to Strokes. Here are a couple of case studies that highlight situations where Helping Hands Respite Care was invaluable for the families involved.

Respite Care – John & Katherine

Katherine is the main care giver for her husband John, who suffers with Dementia. Katherine was scheduled for a hip operation that would put her out of commission for several weeks, unable to provide John with the care and routine he needs. Worried that her situation might worsen John’s condition, Katherine approached Helping Hands looking for a minimum of 4 weeks Respite Care support. She hoped to be able to focus on her recuperation, with the peace of mind that John was being properly looked after.

John and Katherine story

The Carer started with the family a few days before Katherine’s operation, giving her time to understand John’s specific routine and needs, especially his love for spending time in the garden. After Katherine’s discharge she returned home; the Helping Hands Carer continued all of the household work, cooking and cleaning for both, until Katherine was once again fit to take over.

Respite Care – Helen & Dad

Helen juggles a young family, a job and the increasing care needs of her elderly dad; she pops in to see him 3 times a day, keeping him company, making sure he is comfortable, eating properly and taking his medication. Helen was concerned as she had a much needed holiday coming up and she worried about leaving her dad alone, even though it was just for a couple of weeks.

His needs aren’t complicated, but Helen felt better knowing that with Live-in Respite Care he had companionship and someone to take care of him, allowing her to really relax and make the most of her precious holiday.
